The Empirical Measurement of Cultural Sustainability in Serbia
There are many contemporary economic and technological changes that open a variety of possibilities for creation and innovation as well as the promotion and enriching of creativity in sustainable human development. During the last decade, Serbia was exposed to wars and economic sanction. Political changes, which culminated in October 2000, have laid the foundations for making a clean break with the past decade of economic decline. In spite of new political and economic vision, Serbia continued to face lot political and economic changes. Those changes have a different influence on cultural vitality as well as cultural sustainability in Serbia. The paper will analyzing cultural sustainability by using Cultural Sustainability Index in monitoring and measuring cultural vitality trends and progress in Serbia in the period of 2001-2007. The CSI is designed as empirical measure for monitoring cultural sustainability and mapping key points and indicators which could be relevant for national policy making. The CSI which will be use in the paper is an overall indicator of cultural sustainability. It will provide a composite measure of 3 key dimensions of cultural sustainability: presence of opportunities for cultural participation, participation in arts and cultural activity and support for arts and cultural activity.
